NSK Develops APTSURF™ High-Precision, High-Performance Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Better Lathe Finish Quality and Higher Lathe Spindle Reliability

APTSURF High-Precision, High-Performance Cylindrical Roller Bearings

NSK Ltd. (NSK; Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO: Norio Otsuka) today announced that it has developed APTSURF, a new series of high-precision, high-performance cylindrical roller bearings designed for the main spindle of machining tools.

NSK exhibited this product at JIMTOF 2014, the 27th Japan International Machine Tool Fair, to be held at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto Ward, Tokyo) from Thursday, October 30 to Tuesday, November 4, 2014. NSK will start marketing this product in April 2015 and expects global sales of 3 billion yen in 2016.

Development Background

Cylindrical roller bearings with high rigidity are often applied to spindles in machining tools, particularly in lathe machines. In recent years, the need for better machining quality and longer reliability has grown. This new product reduces rotational vibration by improving the precision of each bearing component and extending life through the optimization of the bearing's internal design and improved fabrication technology.

Product Benefits

Low Vibration
Through the precision enhancement of each bearing part, the RMS value of vibration has decreased by 55% compared with that of the conventional bearings, and the lathe finish quality has improved.
Longer Life
The dynamic working load has increased by 15%, and the life has extended by 60% compared with conventional bearings. There is also improved reliability of the machining tool main spindle, which uses cylindrical roller bearings.

Target Range

The targeted application range is a bearing outer diameter of 360 mm or smaller and an accuracy rating of P4 or higher of the standard series of single-row cylindrical roller bearings and high-rigidity series of double-row cylindrical roller bearings.
