Tokyo, Japan, May 6, 2014 - NSK Ltd. (NSK; Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO: Norio Otsuka) today announced that it has developed a long-lasting, sealed, four-row tapered roller bearing for high-speed rolling machines used in the steel industry. This new product improves the productivity and operational stability of steelmaking equipment, thanks to the long operating life it provides compared with conventional products.
NSK is targeting 500 million yen in global annual sales by 2017.
As the population and standard of living have increased in developing nations, the demand has risen for tinplate products used in food and drink containers. Such tinplate products are very thin and therefore more difficult to produce compared to that of the sheet metal used for automobiles. Therefore, in order to improve production capacity, rolling machines need to be faster.
However, as the speed of the rolling machines is increased, the following concerns of early damage occur in the bearings used therein:
- Early degradation due to the heat generated in the bearing seal lip results in water intrusion-the water used by the rolling machine gets into the bearing, which in turn can lead to poor lubrication and can result in sudden problems such as early peeling and seizure.
- Early degradation of the grease due to the heat generated in the bearing, which in turn can lead to poor lubrication and can result in sudden problems such as early peeling and seizure.
In response to these concerns, NSK developed a long-lasting, sealed, four-row tapered roller bearing to prevent these types of sudden problems from occurring at high speeds and achieve operational stability for high-speed rolling machines.
