NSK Signs MOU with Delta Electronics for Collaboration in Robotics

Establishing a Robotics Business Department to Accelerate Commercialization in Robotics by Leveraging NSK’s Core Strengths

NSK Ltd. (NSK; Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO: Akitoshi Ichii) today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Delta Electronics, Inc., a globally recognized leader in power, control, and automation, to advance collaboration in robotics.

In conjunction with this agreement, NSK has positioned its robotics-related business as a key pillar of its medium- to long-term growth strategy. To advance its robotics business, including this collaboration, the company has established a new Robotics Business Department and commenced full-scale development and commercialization of next-generation robots and actuators for robotic applications.

1. Background

In recent years, demand for robotics technology has grown rapidly across a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, and services. In the humanoid and collaborative robotics segments in particular, smaller, lighter designs — together with highly precise, highly reliable, and highly efficient actuators and the control technologies that support them — have become essential.

NSK has built a strong track record in industrial robotics, focusing on bearings and linear motion products, and has been advancing research and development in a wide range of robotics-related technologies by applying its mechatronics expertise. Delta Electronics, for its part, has a world-class track record in power technologies, motors and drives, and industrial automation.

The two companies share the conviction that combining their respective strengths will enable them to create highly competitive products and solutions for the next-generation robotics market. This shared vision led to the signing of this MOU.

NSK and Delta Electronics have already been working together on the development of actuators for robotics applications. The signing of this MOU builds on those existing efforts and represents a further step toward full-scale commercialization in robotics.

2. Key Points

Under this MOU, the two companies have agreed to explore and pursue collaboration in the following areas, with the goal of expanding the use of rotary and linear actuators (rotary and linear joints) for robots:

  • Technology Integration and System Validation: The two companies will jointly assess the compatibility and integration of electronic, control, and mechanical component technologies, and collaborate on integrated design.
  • Product Development and Prototyping: The two companies will cooperate on research, development, and prototyping, while also discussing the framework and terms of future agreements for the next phase of collaboration.
  • Commercialization and Market Deployment: The two companies will evaluate the market potential of jointly developed products and discuss commercialization and sales strategies for global markets.

This MOU confirms the two companies’ intent to collaborate. Specific commercialization and product development initiatives will be carried out under separate agreements to be concluded in the future.

3. Establishment of Robotics Business Department

In the robotics field, NSK has been moving forward with a broad range of technological initiatives in actuator development, service robot development, and partnerships with robotics-related companies. To strengthen these efforts further and position them as a driver of medium- to long-term growth, the company newly established the Robotics Business Department in March 2026 as part of its efforts to strengthen its organizational structure for robotics-related businesses. Through partnerships with robotics-related companies such as RT Corporation, the Robotics Business Department is working to create new business opportunities in robotics.

The signing of this MOU with Delta Electronics is part of these efforts to strengthen NSK’s robotics-related business. With the establishment of the Robotics Business Department, NSK is building an integrated framework that connects technology development and business creation by leveraging its core strengths in bearings, linear motion products, and mechatronics, with the aim of expanding its robotics-related business.
