NSK Welcomes Visitors to JASIS 2016 for the First Time Exhibit of Its Improved Manipulation System

NSK Ltd.(NSK; Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO: Toshihiro Uchiyama) today announced that it will exhibit its technologies at Japan Analytical & Scientific Instruments Show (JASIS) 2016, to be held at Makuhari Messe, Japan (Chiba) from Wednesday, September 7 to Friday, September 9.

At JASIS 2016, NSK will exhibit a manipulation system with improved operability for micro applications. The product developed uses integrated mechatronics technology that combines image processing into precision positioning drive technology and is technology that has been cultivated by NSK through the development of mechatronics and mechanical components such as bearings.

NSK's highly responsive, powered manipulation system enables micro applications. The system can be used to perform delicate operations with joysticks, including micro-fertilization of the ovum in experimental animals. In 2014, the system was put to practical use in joint research with the Central Institute for Experimental Animals (CIEA).

NSK has now improved operability by adding a rotary pump interface. A micro pump that moves in proportion to how much a rotary knob is turned allows intuitive and fine injection of micro quantities.

NSK also improved the design of the controls with assistance from the Kanagawa Industrial Technology Center. The equipment appearance was made more approachable for non-mechanical researchers, such as those in biotechnology, and the operability of the joystick was stabilized, improving usability.

These new improvements expand the scope of the system's applications to pre-processing before analysis and post-processing application, including the picking up of cells and microscopic objects and the application of micro amounts of liquids.
