NSK Holds Science Workshop for Elementary School Third Graders

Tokyo, Japan, January 25, 2010 – NSK Ltd. (NSK; Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO: Norio Otsuka) held a science workshop for third grade pupils of Fujisawa City Honcho Elementary School on Friday, January 22, 2010 at its Fujisawa Technology Development Center.

This was the fourth science workshop held for Honcho Elementary School students this year and 124 third graders participated. The program included carrying out experiments to find out about the workings of friction and the force it creates in a range of everyday situations, as well as watching a demonstration of the company's human assistant four-legged wheeled robot. The children were intrigued by the experiments using ball bearings to demonstrate the mechanisms of friction, and asked many questions, keen to learn more.

NSK offers its hands-on science workshops for children in order to generate interest in science among young people.

In order for Japan to develop further as a world leader in technology it is important to promote science and technology and NSK believes that to do this, it is essential to train and develop the next generation of science and technology personnel. Amid concerns over a lack of interest in the sciences in recent times, NSK will continue in its efforts to contribute to social development by working to strengthen interest in the sciences among young people.
