Wheel Bearings
Wheel bearings are to be found on each axle and have to withstand a whole variety of loads from forward propulsion, turning and stopping. And they have to be sturdy enough to not only support the various driving loads, but arduous environmental conditions too.
NSK Wheel Bearings - Virtual Plant Tour
HUB I Wheel Bearing
The first generation Hub unit bearings from NSK integrate the previously separate bearings into one unit along with seals and pre filled lubrication.
The clearance is pre-set, leading to a more reliable and straightforward mounting, and the pre-lubrication by NSK with the latest greases means that mechanics can take the bearing directly from the package to put into the vehicle, thereby avoiding accidental contamination or filling with the incorrect quantity or quality of lubricant.
Many of the bearings have integrated magnetic encoders in the inboard seals to provide information to vehicle braking and stability control systems and most designs use ball bearings to reduce frictional torque and support low fuel consumption. For heavier load applications, such as some SUV and Pick-up applications, tapered roller bearings are utilised.
HUB II Wheel Bearing
The second generation Hub unit bearings from NSK integrate a mounting flange to the bearing outer ring. This facilitates mounting the bearings to the vehicle or to wheel the depending on the type.

HUB III Wheel Bearing
The third generation hubs from NSK offer the most compact, lightest and integrated units for chassis applications.
NSK has introduced cold forming techniques to achieve more efficient manufacture and lighter, more compact hub units. Integrated sensors provide vital information to the various vehicle dynamic systems, and some of the most advanced sealing and lubricating technologies have been used to ensure excellent durability and reliability. This generation is the most straightforward to install, given its “bolt-on” arrangement.
Covering applications for European, Asian and American brands, NSK produces more generation 3 hub bearings than any other manufacturer.
