Throughout its history NSK has made a vital contribution to the growth and advancement of the Japanese machinery industry. In the early 1960s, it also began to build a significant presence in overseas markets. It has since opened sales sites in many countries, starting with the establishment of subsidiaries for sales in the Americas and Europe, and it has also deployed overseas production sites since 1970. Today the NSK organization spans Japan, the Americas, Europe and Asia. Our overseas network of production, sales and R&D sites extends to 27 countries. Each operation cooperates closely with business headquarters, functional headquarters and regional headquarters. They respond promptly and accurately to diversified customer’s needs around the world.
NSK was one of the first Japanese manufacturers to expand overseas. It has continually expanded its international network in the 45 years since the establishment of its first overseas operation, a sales company in the U.S.A., in 1962.
At the time of its 60th anniversary in 1976, NSK had business operations in 15 countries, including 5 production sites, 19 sales sites and 6 representative offices. Thirty years later, that network has expanded dramatically and now consists of 129 sites in 26 countries (excluding Japan).
There has also been a dramatic increase in the scale of NSK’s overseas activities. In 1960 exports amounted to ¥320 million, or about 3% of total sales. At that time NSK had not yet established its any overseas operations, and all products sold overseas were exported from Japan. In the year ended March 31, 2007, overseas sales reached ¥352.8 billion, or 49% of total sales. These figures are indicative of the growing importance of overseas activities.
