Japan
Sales of industrial machinery bearings were strong,
mainly supported by rising capital expenditures. In automotive products,
sales of electric power steering (EPS) systems and automatic transmission
components increased, while needle roller bearings and hub unit bearings
also posted strong sales. Demand for precision machinery and parts from
the machine tool industry remained strong throughout the year, leading
to a substantial recovery in sales. |
The
Americas
A buoyant market in Brazil and a recovery in
the U.S. lead to stronger sales of industrial machinery bearings to the
aftermarket. Sales of automotive products also increased on the back
of strong demand from Japanese automakers based in the region. Recovery
in demand for our precision machinery and parts from semiconductor production
equipment manufacturers also contributed to increased sales. |
Europe
Sales of automotive products were robust, primarily reflecting
a marked increase in sales of automotive bearings, a direct result of
intensive marketing activities. Sales of industrial machinery bearings
and precision machinery and parts also increased on the back of efforts
to boost sales and overall recovery in the European economy. |
Asia
Sales of industrial machinery bearings were strong in
China, while demand for automotive products was healthy in Thailand.
There was also a significant rise in sales of precision machinery and
parts to the semiconductor and liquid crystal display (LCD) production
equipment sectors in Taiwan and South Korea. |
