Bearings are NSK's main business, representing 60%
of total seles. NSK, as a bearing manufacturer, provides
various bearing products to satisfy all industrial
needs. Small-sized to standard ball bearings, automotive
bearings and precision bearings, among other products,
are our core products where we occupy either the No.1
or No.2 market position in the world.
Sales Performance
for the Fiscal Year Ended March 2002
Our strong performance in the automotive sector was
offset by poor results in other industries, such as
electronic and IT equipment, machine tools and industrial
machinery. Sales declined to ¥302.3 billion for
the year, down 5% when compared to the previous fiscal
year.

| Business Environment
NSK's automotive components business consists of steering-related
products, automatic transmission components and seat
belts. Our steering-related products, whose function
is to convey information from the steering wheel to
the wheels of the automobile, include steering columns,
steering joints and electric power assisted steering
(EPS) systems. Automatic transmission components include
friction materials and one-way clutches, as well as
core parts for half toroidal continuously variable
transmissions (CVTs). Seat belts, designed to protect
automotive passengers, also include a full-range of
products.
Sales Performance for the
Fiscal Year Ended March 2002
Although EPS experienced growth in Japan and Europe,
demand for other steering-related products and seat
belts decreased worldwide, resulting in ¥128.2
billion in sales, down 4% from the previous fiscal
year. |

Environment
Precision machinery and parts, built on tribological
technology combined with electronic technology for

as XY tables and Megatorque Motors. In addition, applications
for modularized and systematized products are increasing.
Sales Performance
for the Fiscal Year Ended March 2002
Demand from semiconductor production equipment and
machine tool sectors plunged, resuldting in a 40%
decrease in sales from the previous fiscal year to
¥34 billion.
