  Mr. Furumura has been awarded the JSME Medal for Distinguished Engineers

At the ordinary meeting held by The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) at Sophia University on April 12, 2003, Mr. Kyozaburo Furumura was awarded the 2002 JSME Medal for Distinguished Engineers. This award is awarded by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers and recognizes the individual’s distinguished achievements in the areas of technical development, manufacturing technology and machinery design. The winner of this prize is selected from a pool of over 40,000 Japan Society members. Mr. Kyozaburo Furumura is a former Executive Vice President of NSK Ltd. and is presently one of its standing Auditors.

This award was given to Mr. Furumura in recognition of his contribution to the “research and development of bearing technology,” – beginning with materials and heat treatment to increasing the reliability and longevity of bearings. Mr. Furumura’s research has allowed for more efficient use of material resources and has made it possible to design more functional bearings for a variety of applications.

The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) is made up of engineers, researchers, students and corporations engaged in the field of machinery and machine systems. Founded in 1897, it has sponsored a variety of activities such as lectures, exhibits, and research subcommittee; the JSME is also constantly improving the technological levels of machinery as a means of increasing the benefits to society.
