NSK wins U.S. Automotive Shareholder Value Award

NSK Ltd. ("NSK") has won the 1999 Automotive Shareholder Value Award, jointly awarded by Automotive News, a popular U.S. automotive industry newspaper, and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), an accounting and consulting firm, in recognition of its outstanding performance as judged by a review of the financial information of concerned enterprises.

Representatives from NSK attended the first award ceremony of the Automotive News World Congress held in Detroit on January 19, 2000, and received a cup and framed picture.

This award is based on the Total Shareholder Return index (TSR*), and given to the enterprise which extends the highest shareholder value among world leading automakers and automotive component manufacturers for the one-year period of 1999 and the three-year period of 1997 to 1999. NSK won the 1999 award. NSK manufactures and distributes bearings, chassis parts, seat belts, and other automotive components, regarded as relatively less yieldable, and achieved 83.9% of TSR (0.2% of the average among reviewed enterprises) in 1999 and is ranked first among 42 enterprises. Being nominated for the prestigious award is deemed to be nearly as great an honor as winning it. NSK renewed its commitment to emphasize investor relations and to continuously endeavor to maintain this high TSR percentage.

GKN, PLC (U.K.) won the award as the best performer over the three-year period from 1997 to 1999 by achieving 96.3% of TSR (16.8% on the average). GKN, PLC commands a 40% market share in the drive trains field of the automotive drive component sector.

NSK ranks 13th out of the 42 enterprises by achieving 16.3% of TSR across the three-year period.
